The application deadline for September 2012 has been extended to May 21st.

Have you considered Science One? If you want to study in an exciting and stimulating first year at UBC, take Science One. This 75-student, innovative first-year undergraduate course presents the traditional disciplines of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics in a unified, integrated format that fulfills second-year prerequisite requirements for all of these subjects.

  • Dedicated study and social place
  • Limited to 75 students
  • Eight faculty members participate
  • Proven results
  • Interdisciplinary 25 credit course (plus BIOL 140)
  • Completes the prerequisites for second-year Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics

The course has its own dedicated study and social space in the Barber Learning Centre, and cultivates critical, independent thought as the basis of scientific inquiry. This class is dedicated to Science One students, helping to promote a community of learners in which students are encouraged to ask focused questions, suggest solutions, and communicate, discuss, and defend their findings. Studies have shown that the Science One formula works: our students enter with a similar academic standing to that of all other BSC 1 students and yet obtain a significantly higher standing both at the end of first-year but also in key upper-level courses. Science One students hold a disproportionate number of major scholarships and have gone on to successfully complete advanced degrees in Science (MSc and PhD) as well as to earn professional degrees in health care fields and other areas.

A separate application is required for admission to Science One.
